Marona, organic seeds

Eco

Information

We have tried many varieties of green dwarf French Beansover the years and the pods are always getting more or less fibrous if notharvested in time. But Marona is more forgiving. This bean is the mostresistant to developing strings. Still when the seeds inside the pods arebeginning to develop it is fully enjoyable. Besides it is one of the mostdelicious dwarf beans we’ve ever tried. Marona is a low-growing, reliable andearly variety, which delivers a big crop even in dry summers. The pod is longand round and keeps fresh notably long after harvesting. Developed atBingenheims in Germany. Resistent to common mosaic virus. A package contains about 50 seed. Organic seeds.

Cultivation advice

Sowing

One cannot sow too early, for if the seeds are to germinate and not rot, the soil must be warmed up to at least 12oC, preferably 16oC for un-disinfected seeds. Sow the beans 3-5 cm deep!

Spacing

Keep 10-15 cm between the plants and 30-50 cm between the rows! The rows can be closer together in beds, but be careful. Beans should grow in an airy manner. If the climate is damp it is better to choose a wider distance between the plants and the rows. The Bean spot disease, a common fungal disease, can easily hit the plants, especially if they grow to close together.

Harvest

Pick off the pods often! Do not wait until they are too big, for then they grow more or less fibrous and get tough. The bean plant produces more pods as long as the old ones are picked. The beans can be frozen after parboiling or dried. Preservation is an old reliable method of keeping fresh beans and souring is too.

Seed

2-4 seeds/g. 1 portion contains about 50 seeds and sows 5-7meters. 400-600 g is needed for 100 meters and 7-13 kg for 1000 m2.
