Is originally from the central parts of Slovakia where it has been grown for the sake of the oil-rich seeds mostly. This plant can grow over 1 meter tall and the single flower is white with violet bottom. Its seed pod is unusually big and yields heaps of seeds for bread baking or drying as decoration. One portion contains about 300 seeds.

Seeds from the species Papaver somniferum are edible and can be used in cooking and baking. Several other species have poisonous seeds and should not be eaten. Therefore, only use seeds if you’re certain that they come from Papaver somniferum.
