Cultivation advice

Sowing

Seeds can be sown directly in open ground once the soil has warmed up properly (minimum 15°C). The seeds will not germinate, but rather rot, if the soil is too cold. The most reliable method is to start the plants indoors or in a cold frame. Sow approximately 3 cm deep in pots with about 2 seeds in each, around 4 weeks before the planned transplanting. Maintain a temperature of 23-25°C until the seeds have germinated. Then, keep them at room temperature in a bright and airy location. Gradually harden them off and transplant only when the soil is warm and the risk of night frost is completely over. Pumpkin plants have sensitive roots, so handle them with care during planting.

Spacing

Between plants 50-80 cm and 90-130 cm between rows. The pumpkin is a climber and can become very large. Give it ample space!

Harvest

Harvest before frost harms the fruits. The pumpkin can be stored for several months. It is used in everything such as soups, casseroles, pies, desserts, marmalade and preserves.
