Thymus serpyllum, also known as Breckland thyme, belongs to the Lamiaceae family. It is a perennial, creeping plant with bright red-violet flowers. It is stands hardy in both the heat of summer and the cold of winter, creating a beautiful flowering carpet beloved by bees as well as others. This wild thyme is used as an herb in cooking, although its taste isn't quite as strong as that of the common thyme (T. vulgaris). It is however said to be a superior medicinal plant, used against cough, sore throat, hangovers, sleeplessness, and muscular pain. It's also said to increase the circulation, digestion and to improve resistance to infections.
