Information

This dark wine-red variety of shiso, also known as Perilla, is very decorative. Grown as an aromatic and warming culinary, spice, medicinal, and garnishing plant. The leaves have a unique curry-like flavor and are used fresh or dried in soups, salads, pickles, tempura, sushi, etc. Seeds and flower clusters are also used.

Cultivation advice

Sowing

Sow about 0,5 cm deep in April. The slow to germinate seeds, usually sprout better after 3 weeks in a refrigerator sown in light soil.

Harvest

Harvest tender leaves gradually. Larger leaves, seeds, and flower clusters can also be eaten.
