Information
An early and beautiful dark red variant of the well-known Lollo lettuces that have been grown for many generations in Italy. It is like a cross between a curly pick and a loose head. The finely curly leaves transition from the dark burgundy to a brittle light green base. Lollo rossa is also grown for small leaves and can be harvested in batches throughout the season. The leaves have good shelf life after harvest. It is a fresh and easy-to-grow variety and an exciting element in a salad mix. The taste and structure are soft but also crunchy with a little chewiness and a slightly sweet, slightly bitter and nutty taste. It can withstand temperatures below freezing in the fall.
A portion contains about 250 seeds.

Cultivation advice
Sowing
Sow thinly, about 0.5 cm deep. The seeds need light and a temperature below 18 °C to germinate. Higher temperatures result in slow and weak germination.Lettuce can be started very early in a greenhouse (soil temperature at least 5 °C), or sown indoors or in a cold frame 3–5 weeks before transplanting outdoors. Gradually harden off the plants. Plant them shallowly and water well. Once hardened, most varieties tolerate several degrees of frost.
Direct sowing can be done as soon as the soil can be worked. If the soil is dry, water the seed row before sowing, this also helps lower the temperature during midsummer sowing. To have fresh lettuce throughout summer and autumn, sow in succession or use several varieties with different maturity times. Late autumn sowing for overwintering can also succeed even in northern regions.
Spacing
Thin out early! 15-30 between plants and 35-50 cm between the rows.Harvest
