Asparagus Pea

Tetragonolobus purpureus

Is a very beautiful pea, short (20 cm), branchy with red-brown velvety flowers. The small winged pod should be eaten lightly poached with butter when it is 2-3 cm long. The asparagus pea is easy to grow, fast and can be harvested for a very long time. If the pods are picked off and the plant watered regularly the harvest can last for 2 months. One portion yields about 30 seedlings with 10-15 cm of mutual space. The asparagus pea should be sown when the soil has warmed up. A portion has about 40 seeds.
