Decorative Cabbage

     Brassica oleracea

is cruciferous of the same origin as kale, white cabbage etc. It is a very hardy, low-growing leaf cabbage of curly leaves which grow ever brighter in colour after frosty nights. It is a veritable ornament in the autumn garden and edible as well, preferring well drained, nutritious soil.

SOWING: Sow directly in May, when the soil is warm, about 1 cm deep, or pre-cultivate indoors 4-6 weeks before setting out once the frostrisk is over.  It may winter over and then blooms during the second year.

SEEDS: About 300 seeds/g.
