    Silybum marianum
is a composite annual which has been grown for a very long time, chiefly for its magnificent growth with large, thorny, shiny, green leaves with light spots and large violet flowers, but also for its use in the kitchen where tender leaves can be mixed in a salad and the receptacles (flower bottoms) be poached like artichoke hearts.

SOWING: Sow directly or pre-cultivate and thin out to a mutual distance of 50-60 cm.
